How to Stop a Dog from Humping Your Leg
(If Desired)
Let's face it, we've all come across humping dogs. It's unpleasant
to watch and extra unpleasant if the dog happens to be yours.
But, what happens if you are attacked by a humping dog and he
happens to be yours? Sure, as male puppies mature you need to
have that talk with them about moving into puberty and how their
bodies "will change".
But, what does this really mean to a dog? Nothing. Sitting them
down for "The Talk" will not stop the humping. Now your
humping dog can be quite embarrassing when you have guests over
to your home (and perhaps your humping dog has already kept some
guests away).
Depending upon the quality of the humps, how much he clings and
how easy or hard he is to shake off will determine the proper
amount of embarrassment. Now, if your dog humps your leg you can
pass it off as a joke, give a short kick and send your pooch flying
(No, don't do this - really, don't do this!).
This is one way to deal with it. If your pooch humps your guest's
leg, you can also administer verbal rebuff to the canine so that
he stops his humping immediately.
I don't recommend pepper spray or a taser in this case, though
a touch to the neck may come in handy (consult Cesar Millan, the
Dog Whisperer for more info). As you are removing the dog from
leg, whispering a stern "NO!" is also in order.
Now, when your guests are away, you may just enjoy your dog humping
your leg. Hey, it's a free country and as long as no laws are
broken and you're in the privacy of your own home, who is to say
what is right and what is wrong?
So, if you are in the mood, then it is recommended that you wear
a couple pair of long and thick socks upon your leg. Do not, and
I say emphatically, do not put itching powder on your socks!
No matter what, a humping dog can run the gamut from a deep embarrassment
in front of guests to your best friend on a lonely night. Keep
you options open.
